Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji Expresses Confidence in APC’s Primary

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed strong confidence in the All Progressives Congress leadership to conduct a credible primary and ensure victory for the party in the 2026 governorship election.

The governor spoke to journalists on Tuesday, September 23, after facing the APC Screening Committee led by Tunji Olawuyi in Abuja.

He was the first among four aspirants to appear before the panel, which also screened Kayode Ojo, Abimbola Olajumoke Olawunmi, and Atinuke Omolayo Oluremi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the Ekiti governorship election for July 20, 2026, while the APC primary is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025.

Governor Oyebanji, who arrived at the venue around 10 a.m. for the 15-minute session, described the exercise as transparent and fair. He commended the party’s structure, stressing the importance of a level playing field for all aspirants.

“I call on the APC National leadership to provide a level playing field for all the aspirants that have indicated interests and scaled through the screening process to enable them to sell their manifestos to party members,” he said.

The governor added, “I have confidence in the ability of the committee that will conduct the Ekiti APC Governorship Primary election on October 27, to do an excellent job in tandem with party guidelines.”

He further noted, “I must commend the APC for putting this structure in place. It will save the party from a lot of problems. I have absolute confidence that the party will get it right.”

According to him, the process would move through the appeal and congress committees before the election proper, urging unity among aspirants regardless of the outcome.

“Whoever emerges must be supported, because it is not just about the aspirants, it is about returning our party to power and serving the people,” he stated.

Oyebanji was accompanied by several political associates and party leaders, including Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, and AVM Niyi Ojuawo (rtd.), among others.
